When mirrors were shipped from Venice to Shiraz some cracked or broke outright and arrived as shards in their wooden cradles. Nobody dreamed of throwing them. Mosaics and shrines were built from them. Is it ok to change analogies mid life? Lemons/ lemonade served me fine till now but I think I’m entering my broken mirror/monument era.
I saw Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian at Moderna. "This should be modest and I'm not kidding" were the first words in the film. Then the camera found her dialing a phone number, thumbs pressed deep into the rubber buttons, fully concentrated. "Stop pointing your camera at me," she shouts. Her work is mesmerising.
